Sapporo winter festival


The Sapporo Snow Festival was begun in 1950 when high academy students constructed occasional snow statues in Odori Park. It has since evolved into a large, commercialized event, featuring stunning snow and ice statues and drawing more than two million tourists from Japan and across the world.

In 2007, nearly two million individuals visited Sapporo to notice the hundreds of snow sculptures and ice statues at the Odori Park and Susukino areas, in main Sapporo as well as the Scotland area.
